Your USW Bargaining Committee reconvened with the Council on Northern Interior Forest Employment Relations (CONIFER) in Prince George, BC, on June 26th. For the first time in more than a decade, all BC USW forestry locals, representing more than 17,000 members, stood together in unity at that provincial bargaining table.
Clearly demonstrating a strong united front, your committee carefully explained each of the 61 USW proposals in great detail. CONIFER also discussed their proposals. After a few follow up questions we were informed that CONIFER required time to prepare responses. Your committee once again reminded CONIFER that it is our intention to expedite the bargaining process. Both parties agreed to work over the next few days and reconvene on Tuesday, July 3rd.
BC is broken down into three general USW forestry contracts, the North, the Southern Interior, and the Coast. As most are aware the Southern Interior and North agreements are scheduled to expire June 30th, 2018; the Coast agreement expires June 15, 2019. Each agreement is a little different, however there is significant overlap on many issues.
We look forward to returning to the bargaining table next week to move the process forward.
