Bargaining resumed on July 3rd in Prince George, BC. Your USW Committee showed up with a new framework document prepared to work towards concluding an Agreement. Regrettably CONIFER was unable to engage advising us lengthy caucus time would be required prior to any meaningful response.
We were further advised that the CONIFER bargaining committee would be unavailable to meet until July 23rd. This is extremely frustrating as your USW committee has made bargaining a priority and based on previous discussions with CONIFER cleared our respective busy schedules.
Although it was our hope to be at the main bargaining table concluding a new agreement, your committee will use the next few weeks to work towards resolving Local Issues at the site level. Local issues are site specific issues that are dealt with at the operation level between the Local Union, Plant Committee, and Local Management.
As most are aware the Interior Forest Relations Association (IFLRA) refused to commence bargaining until the USW agreed to a number of IFLRA terms and conditions.
The IFLRA has a legal responsibility to bargain in good faith with the USW. We will be taking all necessary action at the BC Labour Relations Board to ensure that the IFLRA commences bargaining and meets their legal requirement to bargain in good faith.
Further updates will be provided as things progress.
