USW Local 1-2017 recently concluded the ratification votes for thirteen (13) operations covered by the CONIFER Memorandum of Agreement reached February 13th in Prince George. Four (4) of the operations have rejected that proposal for various reasons.
The Local Union met with the membership at Tolko Lakeview on March 20th & 23rd regarding the MOA that was rejected at that operation. Since than we have scheduled a meeting with the employer to resume bargaining on April 10th in Williams Lake.
The three (3) Canfor independent mills; Chetwynd, Polar and Plateau, have also completed their ratification vote. Chetwynd accepted the MOA and the other two operations rejected the proposed MOA
The Employer spokesperson has contacted the Local Union to sit down with the operations that have rejected the MOA, however before we meet with the Employer the Local Union will be holding meetings with the membership of the operations so that the members can voice their concerns and we have a clear understanding of the issues before going back to bargaining with the Employer.
The schedule dates for those meetings will be provided in an upcoming bulletin/meeting notice.
