USW Local 1-2017 Bargaining
West Fraser Williams Lake Planer
Following the rejection of the Memorandum of Agreement reached with CONIFER by the USW membership at the West Fraser – Williams Lake Planer; The USW 1-2017 Bargaining Committee met with West Fraser along with the spokesperson from CONIFER on May 6, 2019 in Williams Lake.
Presented with a number of proposals communicated by the USW membership at West Fraser WL Planer, West Fraser proceeded to reject every one of them.
None of the proposals were considered by the employer and, after the initial exchange, the employer left the table.
Your USW Local 1-2017 Bargaining Committee is now considering options going forward for the Williams Lake Planer membership.
At this time the membership remains in a legal strike position.
12 of the 17 operations covered by members of CONIFER and three independent Canfor operations have ratified the Memorandum of Agreement, while five (Lakeland Sawmill – PG; Canfor – Houston; West Fraser - Williams Lake Planer of CONIFER operations, along with independents Canfor Polar and Canfor Plateau) remain outstanding.
Four independent West Fraser operations (Williams Lake Plywood; Fraser Lake Sawmill; 100 Mile House and Q-Ply – Quesnel) also remain outstanding.
The Southern Interior operations are scheduled to return to the bargaining table May 15-17, 2019.
The Bargaining Committee will be scheduling a membership meeting with the USW membership at the West Fraser Williams Lake Planer in the near future to discuss options and the next steps.
