Tolko Questwood Announces Permanent Closure
“USW Members at Questwood in Quesnel, were dealt a devastating blow on May 10th when Tolko announced the permanent closure of that operation which will be taking place in August”, said Local President Brian O’Rourke.
This coming on the heels of months of curtailments that began at Tolko Questwood back in October of last year.
Even though rumors surround the possibility of mill closures in the interior due to shortage of fibre, this news comes as a shock to the Members and the Local.
USW Local 1-2017 will be working with Tolko to discuss potential job transfers as well as other issues that will hopefully soften the blow to the membership.
“There will also be a Pension Seminar custom made for the members there outlining retirement options for those who are of qualifying age”, said Local President Brian O’Rourke.
There will also be a shift lost at the operation in Kelowna as of July 12th, bringing the total number of job loss to approximately 240 employees.
