IHA Bargaining Update

Jul 26, 2022

IHA Bargaining Update

Your Collective Bargaining Committee and HEABC are currently on hiatus for the summer and will resume negotiations in mid-September.

Bargaining Committees have been working together for many months, with frequent breaks from session in order for HEABC to focus on the other tables also negotiating, our progress has been slow, but steady.

Main table bargaining is still under way, and until they have come to an agreement we are unable to discuss monetary items as the mandated monetary allotment comes to us from the main tables.  We are optimistic that they will have reached fruition prior to our commencing in September, and CBA bargaining will continue in full force.

Housekeeping has been front and center, as we are working towards cleaning up language and getting clarity on many sections, to ensure the CBA will be more user friendly.

Numerous Articles have been agreed to thus far, with the exclusion of anything monetary:

  • Substantial changes for mobility and portability, which will go a long way for recruitment and retention.
  • Strong language has been put in place for Shift Definitions and Premiums.
  • In order to be more environmentally friendly, reduced numbers of paper Collective Agreements will be printed, electronic copies will be readily available.
  • Orientations shall be done either virtually or in person.
  • Numerous MOA’s and LOU’s will be deleted as they have been deemed obsolete.
  • Milestone language has been agreed to for language around overtime for CHW’s.
  • Trans Inclusion language will be more inclusive.

We started discussing Article 14 (Hours of work and scheduling) and 15 (Hours of work and scheduling-Community Health Workers) in our last session, and are hopeful we can agree to some significant language changes when we resume bargaining.

Recruitment and Retention issues have been discussed at length, and the changes we are making will go a long way to address these concerns.

As was stated above, the bargaining committees are currently on hiatus until September 12, when we expect to return to the table.  We are scheduled for a 2-week session of bargaining, so the next update can be expected September 27th.
